The celebrity stylists must have been working overtime this year in preparation for the 2016 Emmy Awards, as there were so many good looks on the red carpet. Most attendees were playing it safe and smart this year, which is nice for us dressporn gawkers, but kind of boring at the same time.
The dresses that were featured on the red carpet will likely reflect the bridal gown trends of the future, so let’s check these out.
Some columnists have Amanda Peet as one of their best dressed, but I disagree. This Ultuzarra gown is interesting, but feels too heavy.
I loved this Carolina Herrera gown on Transparent‘s Emily Robinson. So perfect.
Although this gown is also ‘heavy’ (and Kathryn Hahn was probably very warm in it), I really like the vintage vibe of this Wai Ming dress.
The other star of UNreal, Shiri Appleby chose a simple Dianne von Furstenberg column gown.
Joanne Froggatt is cute, even if it is a boring Stella McCartney column dress.
Sarah Hyland wore pants! But I’m not mad at her. It looks good. This is a Monique Lhullier creation.
Ok, call me basic, but I love Michelle Dockery’s Oscar de la Renta dress.
I’ve tried, but I can’t find a reason to like this dress on Anna Chlumsky. I love a risk, and it almost looks ok from the back…
But, no. Maybe its because fabric resembles a skin disease? One of the very few misses of the night.
Abigail Spencer looked great in this very feminine Jenny Packham dress.
I dislike Amy Poehler’s look – not hate, but dislike. It looks like its cold there, and it was quite the opposite. I love the peridot color of this Pamela Rolland gown, but I hate it next to bright red.
Another who thought it might be cold on the red carpet was Lindsay Vonn, but I love this dress so much that I’ll give her a pass. I’m not sure why she was there though.
Such a beautiful Zac Posen dress on Olivia Culpo.
Winning another Emmy, Julia Louis-Dreyfus wore this polka-dot Carolina Herrera dress. I saw more than one polka-dot dress variation on the red carpet.
Tina Fey rocked a stunning shade of green in this Oscar de la Renta dress, and it happened to coordinate well with Amy Poehler’s dress when they presented together.
Emmy Rossum in a Wes Gordon white column dress. Sorry, but, blaahhh.
This is a cape that I dig. Natasha Lyonne in Sally LaPointe.
Anika Noni Rose in a stunning white Tadascji Shoji gown. Watch and learn Emmy Rossum.
Connie Britton – this Talbot Runhof square dancing dress is not good.
Oof, I have mixed feelings about Kerri Russell’s Stephane Rolland gown. I cannot decide if I love it, or hate it. I like seeing something different on the red carpet, but she looks like a rectangle.
Like a foil-wrapped baked potato right out of the oven, Padma Laksmi is hot in this Naeem Khan gown.
Bow down bitches! Judith Light came through with what I believe is the best dressed look of the night. This outfit is everything. Judith is serving up so much fierce in this Alexandra Vidal gown.
Kirsten Dunst is giving us Gatsby vibes in this Givenchy dress, but it doesn’t quite live up to the other black plunging dress she wore to the Golden Globes. It’s just ok though.
Minnie Driver was adorable last night on the red carpet in this yellow Versace, but the length isn’t working for me.
Ok, so either I didn’t know, or I forgot that Kerry Washington was pregnant. Oops! But here she is, belly-cupping on the red carpet in Brandon Maxwell. Very sophisticated and beautiful dress. Great job Kerry!
Although it is quite simple, I thought Kate McKinnon looked gorgeous last night. I cannot find info on who designed the dress.
Mandy Moore’s look is alright… I don’t care for it, but it’s not totally horrible. This Prabal Gurung dress is nice enough. Maybe it’s her matronly hair that is wrong?
Laverne Cox looks beautiful in this Naeem Khan gold dress, but I can see undergarments, and I shouldn’t.
Claire Danes was so crispy that she was almost un-recognizable. I don’t know if that is a natural tan, or a spray tan gone wrong, but it really took away from an awesome Schiaperelli dress!
Ok, next in line for my Best Dressed after Judith Light is Sarah Paulson. This emerald Prada gown fits like a glove, and her whole look is so regal. I think she came to the Emmys to slay, and she did it.
Sofia Vergara was in a gorgeous Verace dress, but failed on the hair. That ponytail…she could have stolen it from Arianna Grande.
Julie Bowen looked
skinny pretty in this white rufflly Lela Rose dress. I liked the ruffle surprise in back.
Christian Siriano is quickly becoming the designer to go to when you need to slay the red carpet, but have some boobs and hips. Other designers don’t want to dress women unless they haven’t eaten for 4 years. Christian created this spectacular dress for Niecy Nash, and everyone fell in love with it last night.
Priyanka Chopra is an extremely beautiful woman, and yes, her Jason Wu gown is killer, and I’m glad she feels good in it. But why all of the twirling?
So Taraji P. Henson had 2 looks for the night – Yellow boring spaghetti straps dress
And beautiful chocolate-brown sequin, with a chic wig. Both are by Vera Wang, but I wish she would have just chosen the second look for the whole night.
I think Tracee Ellis Ross had the most fun night, and you could tell by how she wore this dress and carried herself. This is a custom Ralph Lauren dress.
Constance Wu went with a look that no one else really had last night, so she really stood out. This fabulous dress is a J. Mendel creation.
While the rest of the internet appears to have mixed feelings about Emilia Clark’s look, I feel underwhelmed. I think that this Atelier Versace dress could have been great if it Emilia was styled differently. Makeup, hair, and jewels can make a real difference.
Regina King is a beautiful woman (and a winner last night!) but this Elizabeth Kennedy dress seems too bunchy.
Maura Tierny wore a tea-length Christian Siriano dress that was cute.
Christian Siriano also did this yellow and fierce draped gown for Angela Bassett, and it is everything!
Historically, I have not loved the Sophie Turner’s red carpet looks, but she wins ‘most improved’ for last night’s look. I love this Valentino dress, and her makeup is perfection.
My second-runner-up for best dressed was Kristen Bell. Of course this is a Zuhair Murad (because his designs are perfection).
Constance Zimmer looked so sweet in this pink Monique Lhullier. Her hair juxtaposed by the frilly-ness of the pink and tulle really worked.
Orphan Black‘s Tatiana Maslany won an Emmy last night in this perfectly-tailored Alexander Wang gown, and she will likely have everyone’s attention from now on.
I’m not a big fan of Giuliana Rancic because I think she is unhealthily thin, but she looked really good in the Georges Chakra dress and cape last night. But perhaps covering the protruding collarbones was the goal?
Not many other than Maisie Williams would be able to pull this look off, but she did it perfectly.
I did not like this look on Ellie Kempfer at all. The Jenny Packham dress is all wrong for her skin and haircolors. Bad decision.
Ariel Winter DID knock it out of the park with this look. The Yousef Alhasbi dress is sexy, but still age-appropriate. Good decision!
Healthy, tan, and relaxed are the words that came to mind when I saw America Ferrera on the rad carpet. Everything looks good. This dress is Jenny Packham.
That was a lot to look at, I know. But tell me who your best and worst dressed were in the comments.Follow
