INDUSTRY SPOTLIGHT: Emily Line – Hair and Makeup Stylist

Onsite Hair and Makeup by Emily Line

Emily Line is a hair and makeup stylist working in the Metro Detroit area for on-location wedding preparations.  Emily styled my hair for my wedding, and provided hair and makeup for my bridesmaids at our hotel room in downtown Detroit.  The convenience of having her onsite for everyone was invaluable! Here’s a little bit more about Emily, as well as some tips on wedding hair and makeup in our very first Industry Spotlight below…

Experience: “I have been a stylist for nearly 6 years. I went to cosmetology school when I was still in high school and got my cosmetology license while I was getting my diploma. I have done hair and makeup for competition through school and I have styled hair and makeup for a bodybuilding competition.”

Wedding Industry Journey: “I have styled a few wedding parties in various salons that I have worked at over the years. Getting everyone ready and seeing the transformation is one of the best feelings and professional experiences.  Lisa’s wedding was one of my first on location stylings and everything went smoothly and I loved hanging out with the girls!”

What made you decide to do weddings?  “Honestly planning my own wedding has made me realize just how tough it is to budget time and money. Offering on location styling services can take a certain amount of stress off of the wedding party, and most importantly the bride.”

Let us know your best ‘Pro tips’: “Hairspray, hairspray, hairspray! Having LOTS of pictures and reference materials to show the stylist also helps make your perfect vision happen. Sometimes words are just not enough!”

Why should brides get onsite hair and makeup service like yours? “Having on-location services can relieve a lot of stress and uncertainty in getting ready for the day. There is no need to travel to and from a salon and have a set appointment for each person involved. There is a lot more flexibility and leeway in on-location services.”

Current favorite trend? “Soft beach waves and braids. A pop of sparkle, such as a headband or pin can really accent and set off an updo. Pastel hair colors such as pink and lavender can give brides a real edgy look.”

What trend needs to die? “Ombre. Color melts can be really nice when blended well but the stark contrast between light and dark has worn out its welcome in my book.”

Emily can be contacted via email for bookings in the Southeast Michigan Area.
